Introduction
BLR Associates is now closed and the directors have retired. We offer our grateful thanks to the many clients and professional colleagues in other practices were had the pleasure of working with over the past 30+ years.
We were a small practice of consulting and building services engineers with our offices in East Sussex, near Hailsham and West Chiltington, West Sussex.
We have been favoured with a number of large commissions over the last few years as detailed in our Projects pages. We believe our practice size enables us to provide an improved service to our clients by ensuring continuity of personnel through all stages of the project, with the Directors and Senior Engineers ( Barry Redmore and Jim Hollis) covering all aspects of the design and supervision process.
In addition, our size is reflected in our overheads, giving us the ability to be competitive. Our philosophy and aim is to provide a high standard of service at a competitive cost.
As a result , most new projects emanate from referral or repeat works, either from a client or another member of the design team from a previous project.
We endeavour to build good working relationships with all design team members. Of prime importance is the relationship with the Architect (and/or Project Manager if applicable) if we are to achieve an integrated design based on the Architect's overall concept.
History
The company was formed in 1990 and since that time has been commissioned for building services projects of considerable scale and diversity. We specialise in design of electrical and mechanical services, producing specifications of works, inviting tenders, supervising the installation of the services and full contract control through final account stage to the termination of defects liability periods. We have also been appointed as Planning Supervisors for a number of projects.
Practice
The practice is a limited company with Barry Redmore and Jim Hollis serving as directors. CAD and other technical services are provided by BLR DataPro.

Software & Working Practices
All tasks are software based, enabling our comprehensive daily electronic archiving discipline to be maintained. We currently utilise the following software.
Hevacomp
Microsoft Office
WordPerfect Office
AutoCAD
Adobe Acrobat
Relux (& other) three dimensional imaging & lighting design software
Daylight modelling
proCALC Electrical Services Software
All drawing information is produced in CAD. This also applies to schemes where the base plan is not initially in a CAD form, as we find the cost of drawing the base plans is offset by the benefits of the medium throughout the project and the reduction in space to that occupied by conventional drawing furniture.
Quality Management
With our philosophy of practice size, we ensure that individual engineers are maintained on projects for the duration of the scheme. Our working practices and the daily archiving enables the recording of tasks in a manner which allows fast retrieval.
